Our Journey Through the Years

Founded in 2012, Claim 52 Brewing began as a humble nano-brewery rooted in passion, community, and a love for the craft. What started as a homebrewer’s curiosity rapidly grew into one of Eugene’s most creative and community-focused craft beer destinations.

Where It All Began

Claim 52 was born from the homebrewing experiments of co-founder Trevor Ross alongside Mercy McDonald and Jeannine Parisi. Inspired by local brewing legend Scott “Spank Dog” Freitas and equipped with a well-worn copy of The Joy of Homebrewing, Trevor brewed beer on three single-barrel systems at once—each batch pushing flavor and imagination.

The name “Claim 52” itself pays tribute to a historic land claim by pioneer William Luckey, where Trevor first honed his recipes and planted the seeds of what would become a beloved brewery.

From local art on the walls to games, food, and community events, everything we do is built around connection.

Growing the Brew

In 2014, Claim 52 expanded beyond its tiny brewing space with the opening of The Abbey taproom at Sprout! Regional Food Hub in Springfield, later evolving into the Whiskey Bar at PublicHouse. This was the first step toward building a community space beyond the brewery floor.

When Trevor stepped away from the brewery in 2016, head brewer Bryce Fisher took the reins and helped steer the brewery toward new styles and broader appeal. The following year, brewing innovation received another spark with the arrival of Willie Gonia.

Establishing Roots in Downtown Eugene

In 2018, Claim 52 made a significant leap forward by opening Claim 52 Kitchen in downtown Eugene. This became more than just a brewery—it was a full-service craft beer destination, bringing together distinctive beers, creative meals, and a vibrant local atmosphere.

A New Chapter Begins

In 2024, Claim 52 Brewing entered an exciting new era under the leadership of entrepreneur and homebrewer Jeremiah Marsden.

Jeremiah brought a lifelong passion for brewing and experimentation, expanding the brewery’s lineup while staying rooted in quality and community. That same year, Aaron Brussat joined as Head of Brewing Innovation, injecting fresh ideas into our beers.

As operations evolved in early 2025, leadership transitioned and roles shifted—ensuring continuity in our creative brewing process while embracing new perspectives and energy.

The Whiteaker Neighborhood and Beyond

In May 2025, Claim 52 relocated its tasting room to 232 Lincoln Street in Eugene’s famed Whiteaker neighborhood—home to some of the region’s best craft beverage producers. This move marked an exciting evolution: expanded community space, culinary partnership with Seasoned, larger seating areas, and a beautiful custom walnut bar handcrafted by Jeremiah himself.

This new location also represents the first phase of a larger plan to bring all brewing operations under one roof, creating a fully immersive brewing and tasting experience where guests can see beer made and enjoy it in a welcoming environment.

Setting Sail for the Oregon Coast

In May 2026, Claim 52 Brewing opened the doors to its newest location on the Newport Bayfront, marking an exciting new chapter in the brewery’s story.

Perched along the Oregon coast, the Bayfront taproom brings the Claim 52 experience to the sea, complete with craft beer, a full pub menu, and stunning waterfront views. It’s a milestone worth raising a glass to, and a celebration of Claim 52’s continued growth across the great state of Oregon.
